Complications of Rhinosinusitis

Are you aware that the most common complication of acute sinusitis is orbital, accounting for 75-85% of cases? This is particularly more common in children than in adults, by 91%.

Therefore, if your child presents with a swollen eye, especially following a recent upper respiratory tract infection, you should be on high alert for possible complicated acute sinusitis.

An eye complication may be the first and only presenting sign of sinusitis. Other complications may include meningitis, frontal osteomyelitis, and intracranial abscess.

If your child has a swollen eye, it may be something more serious than meets the eye. Please consult your doctor or take your child to the nearest hospital for an early referral.
